How to Make the Most Out of Your Bridal Portraits

So you are 3 to 2 months out from the big day: invitations are sent, the menu is finalized, now it is time to channel your inner Beyonce and get your bridal portraits done. Many brides question what is the point of bridal portraits? Look at this as a test run for your wedding day, you will get to see how your entire look comes together and make any changes before you are in front of all your loved ones. Plus it will be a really fun day! So I am here to provide a few helpful tips on how to get the most out of your pictures and make it a fun memorable day.

Tip 1: Who you bring to your shoot matters!

You will need someone there with you to help with little things: helping you with your dress, touching up your lipstick, even making you laugh and relax for the pictures. 90% of us are not the most comfortable in front of a camera so make sure you bring your most positive/ fun crew with you, someone that can bring a lightness to the day. Whether that is your mom, MOH or future sister in law, it doesn’t matter just someone that will make the day even more fun for you!

Tip 2: Pamper yourself!

Part of making this a fun and relaxed day is the pampering that comes before the shoot! Go get your nails done for all your ring shots, get a facial a week out from your shoot so you have that bridal glow and make sure you stay out of the sun a couple of weeks prior to your scheduled shoot. If you do find yourself in the sun make sure you have the neckline that match your dress, you won’t believe how hard it is for your photographer to edit out tan lines.

Tip 3: Get your hair and makeup professionally done.

This is a big one. Like I said above look at this as a trial run for your wedding day. This is a great way to finalize your hair and makeup so you are 100% happy with it on the actual day. If you see something you are not completely satisfied about please make sure to speak up, I promise you your makeup artist wants to know if you don’t like something. If you already have your look locked down then you can take this time to do something different than what you have planned. Maybe wear your hair down for your portraits if you plan on wearing an updo for your wedding day or wear more fun vibrant jewelry in a few shots. Just have fun with it!

Tip 4: Take as many wedding day details with you as possible.

Make sure to bring all your accessories with you: veil, jewelry, bouquet, everything to complete your look. This will give you a chance to see your whole look come together and see if there are any changes you want to make. Also bring anything you know you will want a picture of on your wedding day (i.e. invitation suite, bible, garter, hanker-chief, etc). This will give your photographer a chance to photograph them prior to the wedding day which will give him/her more time to spend with you on the big day.

Tip 5: BE CONFIDENT!

The most important tip I can give you is to be confident! I can promise you, you look beautiful! Here is a chance to get comfortable in your wedding dress and in front of the camera, so just have fun with it! After this, you will have some gorgeous pictures you will cherish forever and the confidence in that everything will look perfect for the day of. So go have fun and make the most out of your bridals.
